Custom Tea Bag Pouches for HSBC’s Chinese New Year Celebration
In the spirit of new beginnings and timeless tradition, Ahista is proud to unveil its collaboration with HSBC to create bespoke pyramid tea bags, tea bag pouches, and envelopes for Chinese New Year. This partnership celebrates not only a shared commitment to excellence and thoughtful design but also the cultural resonance of tea as a symbol of connection, prosperity, and hospitality.
A Meeting of Values
At its core, this collaboration reflects a synergy between two brands that value heritage and global sophistication. HSBC, with its legacy rooted in East-meets-West banking and a strong presence across Asia, approached Ahista to craft a tea experience that would honour Chinese New Year while aligning with their brand’s dedication to quality, personalization, and meaningful gifting.
Ahista, whose name means slowly in Urdu, embodies the elegance of slowing down, savoring life, and reconnecting through handcrafted tea rituals. Every blend, pouch, and label is an ode to craftsmanship and intention. When HSBC reached out to create a premium gifting moment for their clients, we saw an opportunity to infuse traditional Chinese symbolism with our signature minimalist aesthetic and artisanal teas.
Tea as a Cultural Bridge
In many East Asian cultures, including China, tea is far more than a beverage—it’s a gesture of welcome, a sign of respect, and a vehicle for storytelling. During Chinese New Year, gifting tea is a meaningful tradition, conveying wishes of good health, harmony, and prosperity for the year ahead.
For this collaboration, we curated a set of custom tea bag envelopes using select whole-leaf teas known for their aroma, elegance, and depth. Each blend was chosen with care to evoke balance and abundance—qualities central to the New Year celebration. Our pyramid bags, made from biodegradable corn fiber, maintain the integrity of loose-leaf tea while offering modern convenience—making them perfect for both personal and corporate gifting.

Thoughtfully Designed Tea Bag Pouches
HSBC’s brief to Ahista was clear: to create a modern yet culturally rooted gifting experience. We began by designing a series of custom tea bag pouches, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese red envelopes (hongbao) that symbolize good fortune and joy. The pouches were rendered in a contemporary palette of crimson and gold—colours long associated with luck and success—paired with subtle floral motifs and an elegant HSBC logo treatment.
Each pouch houses a single tea bag, wrapped in a custom envelope that carries warm New Year wishes in both English and Mandarin. The messaging was deliberately minimal yet heartfelt, echoing the way tea speaks softly but profoundly to those who understand its language.

Craftsmanship at Every Touchpoint
One of the defining features of this collaboration was the attention to every detail—down to the stitching of the tea bag tags and the texture of the envelopes. We used sustainable, FSC-certified paper and soy-based inks to stay true to our shared values of environmental responsibility and premium quality. Our production team, composed largely of women artisans in India, hand-packed each tea bag with care—bringing together global craftsmanship and intention.
This wasn’t just about producing a tea bag. It was about curating an experience. One that begins with the eye, is savored on the tongue, and lingers in memory. It’s a gift that doesn’t just speak to taste but to tradition, culture, and connection.
The Power of Intentional Gifting
As gifting becomes increasingly digital and impersonal, HSBC’s decision to partner with Ahista speaks volumes. It shows a desire to return to the tactile, the intimate, the meaningful. Chinese New Year is a moment to reflect on relationships—past and future—and gifting tea reflects a desire to nurture those bonds.
Ahista’s teas have always served as a quiet bridge between worlds—between India and the world, between tradition and modernity, between the giver and the receiver. With this collaboration, we’ve extended that bridge to China’s rich and ancient tea culture, reminding us all that sometimes the most powerful gestures come in the smallest packages.
Looking Ahead
As we stepped into the Year of the Dragon—a symbol of strength, ambition, and transformation—our partnership with HSBC reminds us of the power of thoughtful collaboration. Whether in a bustling city or a quiet home, whether sipped alone or shared in conversation, tea continues to connect us in ways both simple and profound.
At Ahista, we believe every cup tells a story. And this Chinese New Year, we’re honored that our story has become part of HSBC’s—woven into envelopes of red and gold, steeped in tradition, and shared across cultures.
Here’s to new beginnings, meaningful rituals, and a cup of tea that says more than words ever could.
