White Porcelain from France / Contemporary Ceramic / 2018
Approximate dimensions: 55mm (height) x 130mm (width)
In India, white is often accepted as a colour of serenity, peace, purity, cleanliness and knowledge. Our artist expresses these terms through conceptual analyses, experiments with procedure, innovation with material, and cultural engagement.Â
This bowl is wheel-thrown by hand using no moulds with French clay. It is coated on the interior with a pure, smooth white opaque glaze so that no traces are left behind after each serving.Â
It is designed with a wider top for efficient cooling needed to maintain the infusion texture and thick-walled for everyday use. Each bowl is fired at 700 degrees Celsius / 1300 degrees Fahrenheit in an electric kiln. They tend to allow a wide colour range, are simple to load and fire, and much more efficient than ceramic kilns of any other type.Â
Drinking tea from a bowl is a hassle-free experience; but also deeply personal within many cultures. We suggest by warming the tea bowl, adding 0.5g tea leaves less than the recommended amount and then gradually fill it with water until the leaves have just opened.
