Stoneware from Germany / Contemporary Ceramic / 2021

Approximate dimensions: 60mm (height) x 120mm (width)

Using German clay, this bowl is hand-thrown and conveys a smooth finish. It is coated with a dark glossy, black-brown glaze and polished by hand to an exceedingly glistening finish.

Our artist draws inspiration from the darkest night of the Indian calendar, Diwali; to create a satiny piece signifying light conquering darkness.

The process goes through two separate firings. The first for 18-20 hours and another for 36-48 hours, post glazing and drying. Each bowl is fired at 700 degrees Celsius / 1300 degrees Fahrenheit in an electric kiln. They tend to allow a wide colour range, are simple to load and fire, and much more efficient than ceramic kilns of any other type.

Drinking tea from a bowl is a hassle-free experience; but also deeply personal within many cultures. We suggest by warming the tea bowl, adding 0.5g tea leaves less than the recommended amount and then gradually fill it with water until the leaves have just opened.

Usage and care: These tea-bowls require no specific care. You can clean them in the dishwasher or hand-wash with mild detergent. Rinse well.
