Notes of white peach, lily and a hint of wildflower honey
White Tea from Sikkim, India / Harvested on January 2024 / Organic
The buds of Moonlight White are plucked at the break of dawn in cooler dewy conditions from our micro-garden in the mountain state of Sikkim, a global biodiversity hotspot. It is naturally withered in the light morning Sun before it's hand-rolled and de-enzymed in the dryer. This allows the tea leaves time to gently oxidize as they dry, drawing forth a round sweetness that is accentuated by the leaves' innate floral qualities.
This tea comes from Sikkim's big white leaf cultivar trees. It’s 4000m elevation provides a fresh and pollution-free environment for optimal tea cultivation from 200 year old arbor tea trees. The elevation and latitude where this cultivar grows affect the character of the crafted tea. The Tukdah 78 cultivar expresses a bright sweetness and a remarkable floral finish.
The white fur on the buds is a feature you often see with teas grown at high elevations, where the buds need protection from the cold. The buds are the most prized part of the plant, as they are full of antioxidants and contribute a delicate sweetness to the finished tea.
Our Moonlight White has an intensely herbaceous aroma and floral base with a surprising depth of flavour that lasts for multiple infusions. We get notes of white peach, lily with woodsy, herbaceous undertones.Â
