Green Tea from Meghalaya, India / Harvested in April 2024 / Organic
This organic green tea represents the perfect assemblage of mixed leaf cultivars, skilled craftsmanship and locality.
The 1300m source garden is scenically situated on the southern bank of the Barapani lake in the far east state of Meghalaya. The natural biome and location of this garden are essential contributing factors to this tea's character and vitality. With rising temperatures and rainfall being increasingly uneven with each passing year in this region, the garden has undertaken steps in growing shade trees that protect the tea bushes from direct rays of the sun. The leaves falling from these shade trees, in addition to the surrounding clouds and mist blanket and make the soil more nutritious. To guarantee tea quality, three drought resistant cultivars - AV2, B157, T78 - were used.
The current owners established the tea garden on virgin scrubland in 2002, as it had been abandoned and forbidden to work on for several decades. The garden was overgrown and in disrepair, but offered the tea makers an opportunity to identify and produce tea in a fully organic environment. From the onset, no fertilizers or pesticides have been used on this organic farm.
The resulting tea is beautifully shaped with pale green whole leaves that brews a cup of extraordinary clarity. The initial delivery is smooth, delicate with a cleansing sensation and continues to infuse through multiple rounds.
