Red Stoneware from Spain / Contemporary Ceramics / 2018

Approximate dimensions: 70mm (height) x 60mm (width)

This uniquely shaped teacup is hand-thrown using Spanish clay. It is unglazed and fine sanded with pristine edges and a firm base.

Each cup is fired at 700 degrees Celsius / 1300 degrees Fahrenheit in an electric kiln. A long firing session adds depth and form; creating a dark, red-brown appearance similar to many terracotta pieces. During the first gleam of morning rays, the cup turns into a beautiful, bright red. The colour has an auspicious meaning within the Indian culture, signifying both fire and purity.

Drinking tea from a bowl is a hassle-free experience; but also deeply personal within many cultures. We suggest by warming the tea bowl, adding 0.5g tea leaves less than the recommended amount and then gradually fill it with water until the leaves have just opened.

'Rouge' includes a stamp of the artist’s signature on the base.
