Notes of savoury oak, almond butter, and cinnamon
Black Tea from Assam, India / Harvested in April 2023 / Organic
Balance, complexity and character. The multiple personalities of this Assam black tea are revealed with hints of sweet, delicate cinnamon spice, almonds and rich tannins. Deep and mellow, the finish is long lasting with its outstanding richness and sheen against the enormous barley-oak sweetness.
Assam is home to large leafed plants, temperate and tropical climate, rich mineral deposits and a 9-month growing season which makes it the most productive tea growing region in the world. Unlike the mountainous regions, the flat jungle landscape makes mechanized harvesting possible and many pluckers use tea cutting shears in order to speed up harvesting and get more material from the plants. However, our teamakers have used sustainable methods in cultivating tea plants with an emphasis on quality over quality.Â
Careful contour planting on its steep slopes and belief in organic methods of cultivation enrich the soil and creates a delicate tea of magnificent quality. The teamaker built his rolling table out of brass to improve the quality of the roll and enhance the flavours of the tea. Wilting trays were also longer and wider than those of any plantation of a comparable size with the sole aim treating each leaf equally. It takes patience and precision to craft this tea - a long, wiry golden tippy black reminiscent of several classic single malt whiskeys.Â
